Companies Investing in or Moving to the USA

A sourced tracker of 44 companies announcing or building U.S. manufacturing capacity, with each company’s own stated rationale, current status and links, including delays and cancellations.

I’m Peter Klausz, a supply chain professional. This tracker shows what companies have said and what has been verified, and it labels announcements as announcements. It is not an endorsement of any company or policy.

Last updated 2026-10-11. Facts on this page are sourced and dated; analysis is labeled as analysis. Announced investment is not the same as completed investment. General information only, not legal, customs, tax, investment or financial advice. Quotes are verbatim from the cited pages. Where a source gives no policy rationale, the table says so.

What the tracker shows

Across 44 entries, the status picture is mixed: 10 under construction, 9 under way, 5 operating at least in part, 12 announced only, and 8 delayed, paused, restructured or reported cancelled.

Analysis: large, well-capitalized firms in chips, pharmaceuticals, steel, grid equipment and defense show the most visible progress, often with demand drivers such as AI, grid load and munitions contracts. The battery and EV cluster shows the most reversals. Company rationales vary: 6 of 44 entries state no policy rationale in the cited source, and tariffs are discussed explicitly for only five of them (Hyundai, Johnson & Johnson, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen and Honda, the last in reporting on a reversed plan).

The Reshoring Initiative, which tracks reshoring and foreign direct investment job announcements, projected about 240,000 jobs announced in 2025, down about 7% from 2024, and noted that it did not include the “$20T of reshoring and FDI projects claimed by the President” (Reshoring Initiative, December 2025). Different trackers count different things, so totals from different sources are not comparable.

Unfavorable and cautionary updates

These are the entries where the cited sources report a delay, pause, restructuring or reported cancellation. They matter because they show why announcements are not delivery.

  • **Intel (Ohio One):** Delayed: Mod 1 operations 2030–2031, Mod 2 2032 (Intel, Feb 2025). A local report dated 2026-08-26 says the fab is still set to open by 2031.
  • **Wolfspeed:** Restructured: emerged from Chapter 11 on 2025-09-29, cutting debt about 70% (company); expansion pace slowed.
  • **Stellantis:** Delayed: Belvidere pilot production now expected 1H 2028 and retail production 2H 2029, versus 2027 previously; more than $60M spent through July 2026.
  • **GM / Samsung SDI joint venture:** Paused (EV demand recalibration, per the report).
  • **Ford / BlueOval SK:** Restructured: Kentucky plant idled while Ford transitions to energy-storage batteries (WKYU, 2026-02-09); SK On plans production at Stanton from 2028.
  • **Panasonic Energy:** Operating, ramp-up delayed; some capacity being converted for data-center batteries (report).
  • **Volkswagen (Audi U.S. plant):** Paused: plant plan at risk unless tariffs fall (CEO, January 2026). Later press reports of a board review were not verified.
  • **Honda:** Reported cancelled by a trade-press article; company confirmation was not seen in the cited source.

Analysis: several reversals are in EV batteries, where the 2025 tax-law changes ended the new clean vehicle credit for vehicles acquired after 2025-09-30 (IRS FAQ). Others reflect company-specific demand or cost choices, such as Intel’s alignment of fab timing with demand and Volkswagen’s tariff-cost argument.

Method and caveats

  • **What I included:** companies with a public, dated announcement and a primary source (company release, SEC filing, government release) or a named trade-press report, covering semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, autos and batteries, industrial and grid equipment, metals and defense.
  • **Rationale column:** quotes or close attributed paraphrases of what the company said in the cited page. I did not infer motives. “No policy rationale stated in the cited source.” means exactly that.
  • **Dollar figures:** as stated by the company or source, usually multi-year, and often including research and development and spending already planned. They are not audited and cannot be summed.
  • **Status:** announced (publicly stated, no verified construction), under construction, under way (programs in progress), operating (production reported), delayed, paused, restructured, or reported cancelled. Status comes from the cited pages on 2026-10-11.
  • **Secondary sources:** Samsung, Honda, Panasonic, Ford/BlueOval SK, GM/Samsung SDI, Stellantis (status) and Volkswagen rely on press or trade reports rather than company releases, and are labeled as such.
  • **Blocked pages:** a few company pages block automated fetching (Intel, GlobalFoundries, Stellantis and GM). I confirmed their headlines through search indexes and used other dated pages for status.
  • **Not covered:** state-level incentives, small-company announcements, and investment that happened without a public announcement.

This tracker is general information, not investment advice. Included companies have not reviewed or endorsed this page.

Frequently asked questions

Does an announced investment mean the money has been spent?

No. Announced figures are usually multi-year company commitments that can include research and development, equipment, existing spending or plans contingent on demand. This tracker lists a status for each entry, and many are still announced or under construction. Micron, for example, said it would stay “disciplined” and “responsive to the market environment.”

Why does the tracker include delays and cancellations?

Because a one-sided list would be misleading. Intel’s Ohio fabs, Stellantis’ Belvidere plant, the GM and Samsung SDI battery project, Ford’s BlueOval SK venture, Volkswagen’s Audi plant and a reported Honda change are included with sources.

Are tariffs the reason companies are investing in the U.S.?

In the sources cited here, companies give varied reasons: customer demand, proximity to customers, national security, government relationships and, in a few cases, tariffs. Of the 44 entries, 6 have no policy rationale stated in the cited source. Tariffs are discussed explicitly in the cited material for Hyundai, Johnson & Johnson (a tariff-exemption agreement), Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen and, in reporting on the reversed Civic move, Honda. Elsewhere the cited pages mention tariffs only in forward-looking risk language or not at all.

How was the list chosen?

It is not a census or a ranking. I selected companies with public, sourced announcements across semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, autos and batteries, industrial and grid equipment, metals and defense, and I included both favorable and unfavorable updates. Smaller companies and announcements without reliable sources are not covered.
